Out of Hours
If you need a doctor in an emergency from 6.30pm to 8.00am weekdays, weekends and bank holidays, ring 0845 408 8000 or, for medical advice, ring an NHS Direct nurse on 0845 4647.

Test Results
Please try to call in during surgery hours or telephone 764244 between 11.00am and 12.30pm for any results of blood tests, x-rays etc. Give your full name, address and date on which your test was carried out.

The treatment room is managed by a Practice nurse every weekday 9.00am to 12.30pm and 2.00 - 5.20pm. There is an appointment system to see the practice nurse who will be able to hep you with:

  1. Immunisations for holiday travel
  2. General advice
  3. Ear syringing (but first check with your doctor)
  4. Cervical smears
  5. Dressings
  6. Removal of warts and verrucas using cryotherapy  

All new patients joining the practice will be invited for a health check.

Any babies under 6 months need to see a doctor.

Non diabetics with chronic, long term problems, but this does not exclude diabetics with minor problems as above.

Minor Surgery

Smaller operations are done under local anaesthetic by several doctors in the practice and are carried out in the treatment room. For advice please consult your doctor.

Cervical Smears

Currently cervical smears are recommended in Somerset every three years for 25-49 year olds and every five years for patients between 50 and 64.

The nurse can give:

  1. All immunisations required for travel abroad. Please note there is a charge for this service (currently £28.00). Yellow fever £44.00 HepB for travel purposes £41.00 (Course of 3).
  2. Tetanus injection (booster required every 10 years)
  3. Flu vaccinations (advised for over 65s and those with certain chronic illnesses, to be given in October/November each year)
  4. Pneumococcal vaccinations
  5. Childhood immunisation

Diabetes And Asthma

Child Health Surveillance

Developmental assessments are carried out by the doctors at six to eight weeks and by the health visitor at:
7-9 months - for hearing and developmental test
18-30 months - developmental assessment
31/2 years - vision and hearing assessment, height, weight and health education

Family Planning

We offer a full range of contraceptive methods: the pill, depot injection, coil, IUCD and post-coital contraception. Emergency and confidential advice is available at all times. Our own in-house family planning clinic is held once a week by Sister Allsworth at the following times:
Wednesday 9.30 to 11.30am.


There is also a family planning clinic at Bridgwater Hospital.

Your Pregnancy...Antenatal And Postnatal Care

pregnantPregnancy can be confirmed by your doctor following a test on a sample of your urine not less than six weeks after the last menstrual period. Antenatal care is under the supervision of the midwife with checks by the doctor at intervals. The team of midwives cover pre-pregnancy advice and parentcraft classes after 30 weeks.

Domino deliveries at the Mary Stanley Wing, Bridgwater Hospital and Ashcombe Ward, Weston-super-Mare Hospital and postnatal care at home for up to 10 days. Antenatal clinics are provided by the MIDWIVES at the following times: 
 - Wednesdays 1.00-4.20pm
 - Thursday 9.30am-12 noon

For your health and the baby's we always advise: 

  1. stop smoking
  2. stop alcohol
  3. avoid any medication unless prescribed by your doctor or advised by your pharmacist.
